Sustainability & ResponsibilityPrinciples We Live By
Everyone at team TICO* are as passionate about responsible living as we are about shaving. Our lifestyles include recycling, gardening, composting, and other environmentally conscience practices. Here is how this perspective is reflected in our company.
USDA Certified Organic Ingredients
For a moment, let’s forget about how your body’s health is completely dependent on what you put in and on it. Let’s not focus on how pesticides and other toxins used to grow non-organic ingredients are so harmful to your health. Instead, let’s focus on mother earth a bit. Part of our choice to become a certified organic product was based on the strict requirements that certified organic farmers are held to. In order for their production and processing practices to qualify for this program, they must be regularly inspected, they must adhere to sustainable farming practices, and they must act in harmony with their environment. Our only question is why all farmers are not held to these standards?
1% For The Planet
Let’s be honest with ourselves, our planet is in some serious trouble. It’s been beat up six ways from Sunday and needs a hand. It needs people and companies that care about how they impact their environments. We spent a lot of time researching a charitable organization that we could align ourselves with so that a portion of our profits could be directly applied to protecting and repairing Earth.
What we found was 1% for the Planet, and we danced a little jig when we were approved to be a part of this great organization. 1% for the Planet is a growing global movement of more than 1000 companies that donate 1% of their sales to a network of more than 3000 approved environmental organizations worldwide. To learn more about them and how they make our planet a better place, you can visit their website here.
Our 100% Recyclable Packaging
Our cardboard packaging is not only made from 100% recycled materials, but it is 100% percent recyclable. Does this commitment cost more? Yes. Is it a cost necessary to being a responsible citizen of our planet. Absolutely.
Our airless bottle is 100% recyclable, which is of course good, but we want to do better. We want to be great. We are a new company with limited resources and therefor have made some concessions. Our bottle is manufactured in China and is made from petroleum based plastics. Our promise to you is that we are and will continue to work to produce a bottle that is not only made in the USA, but that is made from plastics that are derived from plants and are therefore biodegradable. Please hang in there with us as we work to reach this awesome benchmark that we have set for ourselves.
Leaping Bunny Certified
We are also Leaping Bunny Certified, meaning we don’t test our products on animals. A common misconception is if a product says “Cruelty-Free” or has a bunny on it, that means it has not been tested on animals. Designation as “cruelty-free” or “not tested on animals,” or even the image of a bunny on a label may only refer to the finished product, when in fact, most animal testing occurs at the ingredient level.
Furthermore, while a company may claim, “We do not test on animals,” it could still contract other companies to do the testing. The only way to be 100% certain a company is cruelty-free is to buy products from companies that have been certified by the Leaping Bunny Program, which requires that no new animal testing be used in any phase of product development by the company, its laboratories, or ingredient suppliers.
