Organic Grapeseed Oil (vitis vinifera)

Grapeseed Oil is a nutrient rich in vitamins, minerals and linoleic acid. It is very rich in vitamins D, C, E and beta-carotene, with a high concentration of essential fatty acids which have clinically proven to show reduction in wrinkles and fine lines, and also in minimizing scars. It is a light and wonderfully penetrating oil that is an excellent substitute for shaving creams that most often contain harsh chemicals. From the seeds of grapes, our organic shaving products contain many anti-oxidants and OPCs, aka oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes. In a nutshell, OPCs are free radical scavengers, but of greatest importance is the role OPC plays with regard to skin care as a stabilizer of collagen and the maintenance of elastin.

Organic Hemp Seed Oil (cannabis sativa)

Hemp seed oil is most likely best known for the plant that is comes from and least known for the amazing benefits it provides our skin. Hemp seed oil helps to prevent wrinkles and helps alleviate certain skin conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis. It also helps to prevent moisture loss of the skin by acting as a barrier. This barrier rejuvenates the skin and acts as a lubricant while dead skin cells are being shed, as well as provides protection from razor nicks and cuts. Hemp seed oil has the natural ability to soften the skin and it possesses antioxidant properties, improves moisture retention, prevents tissue damage and premature aging of the skin.

Organic Olive Oil (olea europea)

It is often used for its ability to soothe inflamed skin from such ailments as eczema and psoriasis and to soften hard skin. One of the most wonderful attributes of olive oil is its ability to attract external moisture and keep it close to the skin while creating a natural and ‘breathable film’. The beauty in our organic shave products here is that unlike synthetic products that are designed to provide these humectant actions, olive oil does not inhibit the natural functions of the skin such as sweating and the shedding of dead skin, nor does it stop the release of sebum – all necessary and natural functions of our skin.

Organic Jojoba Oil (simmondsia chinesis)

Technically jojoba oil is a wax, not an oil. Therefore it does not oxidize nor go rancid and has an extremely long shelf life. It is very similar to our skin’s own sebum, which is the oil that our skin naturally produces, making it easily and quickly absorbable and leaving the skin feeling very smooth. Jojoba oil is used commercially as a replacement for sperm whale oil, which is often used in the manufacture of cosmetics. It helps to restore the skin’s natural pH balance, lighten scars and other skin imperfections, while helping to diminish fine lines and stretch marks. Many use jojoba as their daily facial moisturizer and to help balance skin conditions from head to toe. Jojoba oil is also a natural antioxidant, offering antibacterial properties and making it a must in cosmetic formulas.

Organic Cranberry Seed Oil (vaccinium macrocarpon)

It penetrates easily and provides excellent moisture. It possesses strong antioxidant properties and has a long shelf life, making it resistant to oxidation and rancidity. Use of this oil in a formulation helps to stabilize other more fragile oils. Cranberry seed oil is an excellent aid for eczema, psoriasis and other skin irritations as it contains Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids and is rich in tocepherols ( Vitamin E). Cranberry seed oil helps to replenish the lipid barrier, which adds smoothness and softness to the skin.

Organic Red Raspberry Seed Oil (rubus idaeus)

Red raspberry seed oil contains 83% essential fatty acids, making it an excellent antioxidant. Due to its high level of Vitamin E, it is known to provide skin conditioning by hydrating, repairing and nourishing the skin, as well as creating a lipid barrier which provides protection and moisture retention. Red raspberry seed oil is lubricating, emollient, soothing and provides anti-inflammatory actions. It is shown to regenerate skin cells, slow down premature aging, as well as reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and even fading scars.

Organic Neem Oil (azadirachta indica)

Neem oil contains triterpenes and tetranortriterpenes, giving the oil anti-inflammatory, antifungal and insect-repelling properties. The oil has a garlic-like odor and a yellow color. In its natural state, neem oil is a semi-solid and is usually combined with other ingredients in the manufacture of skin-care products. This oil is used extensively in India as an antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic and antiseptic agent in many personal products such as toothpaste, soaps and hair care products. Added to any base, neem oil will provide antibacterial actions. Studies have shown using neem oil at 1-5% does provide effective preservation.

Organic Spearmint Essential Oil (mentha spicata)

Spearmint essential oil provides many benefits to shaving oil, including astringent, antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory actions. With vasoconstrictor capabilities, spearmint calms the skin as well as provides soothing and cooling actions. It decongests the skin by calming irritation, itching and redness. It refines the pores and hydrates the skin, making it beneficial for dry skin and issues such as dermatitis and eczema.

Organic Peppermint Essential Oil (mentha piperita)

Peppermint essential oil also provides antibacterial, anti- infectious, antiseptic, astringent and anti- inflammatory actions. Just like its cousin spearmint oil, it helps to relieve itching, inflamed skin, cools and soothes with its vasoconstrictor properties. Since peppermint oil assists in increasing blood flow, it brightens dull looking skin. The menthol in peppermint is the constituent that helps to promote clear and healthy skin and helps reduce an overabundance of sebum, making it beneficial for the reduction of acne and clogged pores. While shaving with oil greatly reduces the likelihood of nicks and cuts, the antibacterial properties provided by the essential oils are critical.

Organic Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (rosmarinus officinalis)

An antioxidant not an essential oil, rosemary extract – also known as ROE – is included in our shaving oil for its ability to extend the shelf life of fixed oils. It is from the herb rosemary and is comprised of antioxidant compounds. Prior to refrigeration, people would wrap their meat in rosemary leaves in order to preserve it. Oxidation turns the fats in meat rancid and does the same to the oils in our skin. Rosemary Oleoesin works to significantly halt spoilage. It provides a bit of an herbaceous scent that blends nicely with the peppermint and spearmint essential oils.

Organic Vitamin E (tocopherol)

Vitamin E is an excellent antioxidant. Antioxidants are used in skin care products to neutralize free radicals before they ravage the skin. Free radicals have the ability to turn the oils of our skin rancid, which damages the collagen. When it was initially introduced into the skin care industry, vitamin E was used not only as an antioxidant but also as a moisturizer. It is therefore an immensely popular ingredient in many organic shave products and skin care products and truly does promote healthier skin. Along with it antioxidant properties, it is an emollient making the skin smoother and softer, and also helps reduce cracking, roughness and skin irritations.
