The All Natural Shaving Cream Scam

The All Natural Scam

What Does ‘All Natural shaving cream’ Mean?

As a consumer, it can be hard to decipher what all natural shaving cream products are safe to put on your skin and in your body. To make matters worse, marketers have become quite skilled at catching your eye with terms like ‘Eco-Friendly’ and ‘All Natural’. Both terms seem harmless enough, but they are highly abused. Conscious consumers should be highly cautious of companies that use these terms. Some people refer to this as the ‘All Natural Scam’.

It can be very misleading. I mean if something is ‘All Natural’ then it has to be good, right? Wrong. Labeling products with the term ‘All Natural’ requires no approval process because manufactures are not required by law to contain any ‘natural ingredients’. In fact, there are no parameters, laws or regulations surrounding this marketing term.

For example, you could create your own company which sells motor oil and slap ‘All Natural’ shaving cream on the label. Who’s to say it’s not ‘All Natural’? It came from decomposed dinosaurs, right? Dinosaurs were natural, as were the tar pits they got stuck in. Now that is an extreme example, yet a valid one. No one would do this, as consumers would lash back at such a dubious claim.

But with food and cosmetics, companies can make this claim with a pretty green label, pictures of lush tropical forests and logos with waterfalls. This tactic typically confuses consumers into trusting them. A more relatable illustration would be a company that takes genetically modified plants grown with toxic attributes, process them down and strip out 95% of any nutrients they may have.  Then they enrich them with synthetic chemical vitamins and blend it all up to create an ‘all natural’ shaving cream.  Crazy, huh?

There is one exception that I must mention in this rant. There are restrictions for the word ‘Natural’ in the promotion of meat products as controlled by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Other than meat though, you are on your own to figure out what you are really buying.

So what to do? There are two labels that are regulated and trustworthy… USDA Certified Organic and NON-GMO Project Verified. If you have a product with one or both of these logos on there, you can grab and go with confidence as you cruise the shopping isles.

Let’s do this… Go into your bathroom right now and try to find an “All Natural” product in there and comment on this post with any suspicious ingredients you find on the label. I would love to hear about your findings!
